Glioblastoma: Current Chemotherapeutic Status and Need for New Targets and Approaches

چکیده
Glioblastoma is the most aggressive, invasive and malignant type of glioma : a tumor which arises from the glial cells in the brain (Wrensch et al., 2002). Glioblastoma represents 54% of all the gliomas and 18% of all brain tumors (CBTRUS, 2011). It is the frequently occurring brain tumor in humans. Patients with glioblastoma usually survive 12-15 months or less after diagnosis. (Krex et al., 2007; Chandana et al., 2008). Because prognosis for patients with glioblastoma is abysmal and current therapies for the disease are ineffective, this review critically evaluates the current chemotherapeutic status of glioblastoma and highlights the need for new therapeutic targets and approaches. The ultimate goal is to improve the outcome of glioblastoma patients.

Radiothermotherapy for glioblastoma multiforme: A preliminary study
Introduction: Glioblastoma multiforme (GBM) is a highly radioresistant cancer with low survival rate. Current therapy approaches have failed to treat GBM. The aim of this study was to assess how GBM tumors respond to combination of hyperthermia and radiotherapy. Materials and Methods: In this study, 38 GBM patients were included. 19 patients were treated ...

Objective(s): Our previous study showed that a newly designed tracer radioiodinated 6-(3-morpholinopropoxy)-7-ethoxy-4-(3'-iodophenoxy)quinazoline ([125I]PYK) is promising for the evaluation of the epidermal growth factor receptor (EGFR) status and prediction of gefitinib treatment of non-small cell lung cancer. EGFR is over-expressed and mutated also in glioblastoma. In the present study, the ...

Primary and secondary malignant central nervous system (CNS) tumors are devastating invasive tumors able to give rise to many kinds of differentiated tumor cells. Glioblastoma multiform (GBM), is the most malignant brain tumor, in which its growth and persistence depend on cancer stem cells with enhanced DNA damage repair program that also induces recurrence and resists current chemo- and radi...
متن کاملGlioblastoma Multiforme Therapy and Mechanisms of Resistance
Glioblastoma multiforme (GBM) is a grade IV brain tumor characterized by a heterogeneous population of cells that are highly infiltrative, angiogenic and resistant to chemotherapy. The current standard of care, comprised of surgical resection followed by radiation and the chemotherapeutic agent temozolomide, only provides patients with a 12-14 month survival period post-diagnosis. Long-term sur...

This restriction has increased the value of land in cities, and on the other hand, it has created some new and complicated technical and legal aspects in the cadastral issues. To respond to these new technical and legal ...
